Walfrid J. Jokinen (1915-1970) was born in Hibbing, Minnesota, the son of Finnish immigrants. He attended elementary and high school in Keewatin, Minnesota and after graduating worked as a reporter for Industrialisti (Duluth, Minn.). In 1940, he went to California and while there married Elsie Ekholm. He served in the Air Force from 1942 to 1946, then attended the University of Minnesota; he received his B.A. in sociology in 1951. Jokinen attended graduate school at Louisiana State University an...
